EXPERT INNOVATION
For many years, the job of drilling bolt holes in flanges over 100 inches in diameter and many tons in weight was labor intensive, time consuming and lacking in precision. Tolerance requirements of less than 1/32 per inch were generally unattainable.
To meet tighter tolerance specifications for bolt hole spacing, Jim Carlson developed a revolutionary new drill table that combines a manual radial arm drill with CNC accuracy. Initially developed for our own use to reduce time and increase accuracy, the Chord Right quickly gained attention in the industry and received a U.S. Patent in 2005.
Carlson Company began custom building and installing the Chord Right at other similar manufacturers throughout the country. Click Here to learn more about the Carlson Chord Right.
How the Chord Right Works
The Chord Right (U.S. Patent No. 6948720) combines a manual radial arm drill with CNC accuracy. By automating the setup process for bolt hole spacing, the Chord Right cuts time and increases accuracy and raises the standard on how bolt circles are drilled.
Chord Right drill tables accept up to a 20,000-lb balanced load. Positioning takes place with a servo motor, gearing and backlash through a resolver in the servo motor. Accuracy can be entered up to seven decimal places.
